Welcome, Bienvenidos, and Tapeg̃uahẽ porãite!

Thanks for following along! This public blog is a great way for all the important people in my life to stay passively updated on my service if (and when) I do not have internet access to reliably stay in contact. I am planning to post about 1–2 times a month, but we'll see - maybe I'll have a lot to say! Feel free to share this link with friends, family, or anyone you think would be interested :)
You can also follow along on Instagram @yamsandpapayas for (hopefully) more frequent updates!
I do have to disclose that the opinions, experiences, and ideas published in this blog are mine alone and do not reflect the views of the Peace Corps, the U. S. Government, or the Paraguayan Government.
Some General Information:
For those that don't know me, my name is Maya and I will be living and serving with the Peace Corps in Paraguay from September 23rd, 2025 to December 4, 2027. I will be a Community Environment Promotor working in partnership with my local community to develop and implement sustainability, climate-resilience, and/or conservation-based initiatives focused in one or all of the following areas: environmental education, reforestation, and zero waste.
Peace Corps service involves 10 weeks of pre-service training, followed by 2 years of permanent site placement. I will leave for pre-service training on September 23, 2025, which will take place in a suburb an hour outside the capital city of Asunción, called Capiatá.
I will not know where my permanent site placement is until week 7 of pre-service training, so stay tuned for updates! Once I know my site placement, I will have more specific details on exactly what type of work I will be doing, how much internet and mail access I will have, and what my living conditions will be like.
You can always visit the Peace Corps website for more info!
